Day 3

Day 3 of running for my life. Today my wife and kids supported me and we all went to Alta High school together. McKenna tried to keep up with me for the first 1/4 mile, but for a 5 year old that is probably the equivalent of a 5K for me. So she sat down and I kept running. after the first mile, my right knee started to hurt pretty badly. somehow I have bruised my knee and my ankle, So I was not able to finish by 2 mile run and left a little disappointed. My motivation to lose weight has now improved to eating less proportions and eating more often. I believe that my bruises are from my extreme obesity, my legs just cant take the weight. My next goal is to be running Tuesday night (3 days). I will also be hiking with my family tomorrow. Note to myself. When running in the morning stretch better than is necessary for running at night.

Day 2

Day 2 of running for my life. I woke up ready for work, only my legs were sore. Last night I ran a 1 and 1/2 miles (at 9:30 pm). This time I did not run on a track, instead I walked out my front door and ran downhill. I felt pretty good and was sure I could run for several miles. at the 3/4 mile mark, I looked at how far downhill I had run. Upon looking at the hill I was not sure that this was the same hill I had just run down. It took me 5 minutes to run down the hill and 15 minutes to get back up. Yes I ran, but most of the running was slow. I was singing in my head a song by Bush called Machinehead, it goes like this ". . . breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out. . ." The best part about this run was just as I was a bout to walk I got my second wind and ran with extra speed up the remainder of the hill. I told Jenn that as I lose my weight, and go from over 200 pounds to my goal of 175 pounds, the uphill run wont be so bad anymore.

Day 1 of Running for my life I ran at Alta high school so I could track how far I ran. The challenge with running at a high school is that I had to walk past the young athletic kids, the soccer players, the cheerleaders, and the football players. Despite the extra weight and the fact that all the kids looked at me like I could be "grandpa", I walked to the track and put in my best effort. After years of not running or exercising I was able to run a total of 2 miles. I will try to run again on Thursday, but if time does not permit I will be running next on Saturday morning.

Running for my life

"Running for my life" January is usually a month when people set goals for the new year ahead. Typically, I like to set 1 personal goal, 1 work related goal, 1 spiritual goal, and 1 goal as a father. 2012 was not my typical January, instead of setting goals I was found out that my pituitary gland stopped functioning, and that my body was extremely low on testosterone. I did not have any energy, I did not even want to talk with friends, neighbors or family. In April I spent a night in the hospital with ice packs covering my body and a fever of 104. My body does not respond to common colds the same way that it did when I was younger, instead of quick recoveries I spend weeks fighting a cough, with a fever, body aches and pains. It is now September and my endocronologyst has done a good job of getting my testosterone back to an acceptable level and as a result my energy has increased. I am ready to start doing my part, with the energy I have I am going to spend it on a program I am calling "Running for my life". I believe that by running I can give myself a better chance of living longer or to an older age, and to live better and enjoy the time I spend with neighbors, friends, and family. My goals for the next year: Run 3 days a week Loose 30 pounds (currently 203) Run a Marathon in 2013 Hike the Narrows in Zions with my friends
